Communication Challenge
The Future We Want is an outgrowth of the Presidential Climate Action Project (PCAP) and has the support of the leading environmental groups around the world. The vision is straight forward: Gather the best and brightest solutions for solving our climate crisis and create an exhibit and website to show how they all fit together to form a sustainable built environment. The power of the project is that for the first time, the climate change discussion is moving beyond negative imagery and instead, presenting a positive vision for people to rally behind and move toward. But how can such a broad range of ideas, technologies, and scales be communicated to the public?
Our Solution (In Production)
Our approach calls for the creation of a large projection wall that would display rural, suburban, and urban environments. Viewers will be invited to explore the environments, learn about solutions that will create a sustainable society, and add them to their own. We are also building a companion website for the project that allows visitors to build their own future online and use the online tools as a means to advocate for change in their city or village. Both the exhibit will convey the merits of the various solutions on an emotional and intellectual level. People will be able to see and feel how creating a more sustainable future will result in a better quality of life for them and future generations.
Results
The project has been well received by leaders in the sustainability movement as an ideal platform to educate policy makers and the public about the benefits of building a clean energy economy.
