Business Challenge
How does a public private partnership overcome three decades of blight and successfully rally support for a urban redevelopment project that no one thinks will succeed?
Arnold Imaging was retained by the City of Kansas City and the Cordish Company to create digital and print media that would help their partnership attract tenants, secure incentives, and convince people that the Power and Light District was going to succeed.
Our Solution
We created a complete digital and print campaign to attract tenants, secure incentives, and convince people the project was actually going to happen. We produced a thee minute video that showed exactly what the District would look like.
We designed a 10,000sf marketing office for the development complete with plasma screens and print collateral that showed what each area would look like in stunning detail. We also created a marketing website for the development that was used to attract inline tenants and keep the public informed about the progress.
Results
The details we placed in the video, such as thousands of “rocking out” concert goers, and fire emitting water features, helped people get beyond their skeptism and believe in the project.
- Our video successfully convinced H&R Block to move their 200,000 s.f. world headquarters to the district.
- A revised video convinced voters to approve a sales tax increase that would pay for the construction of a new basketball and hockey arena.
- The marketing office helped convinced AEG to partner with the city and operate the new arena.
- The project opened in 2007 and won a ULI Award for Excellence in 2008.
- Civic leaders, the Cordish Company and the public have all said that with the video that we created, the project wouldn’t have gained the traction that it did.
